MA description

Students of our MA in English Studies programme at the School of English and American Studies (SEAS) begin their studies by taking introductory courses in literary and cultural history, literary theory, historiography, linguistics, and intercultural communication. Afterwards, students choose one of the many specialisations offered within the programme, completing the courses of the specialisation that they have chosen. The Department of English Studies (DES) runs the English Language Literatures and Cultures Specialisation.

Our courses on the MA in English Studies programme give students the opportunity for concentrated, higher-level study. Our seminars are run with relatively small numbers of students, allowing for close attention to be given to the academic work of individual students. Our courses explore their subjects in depth, introducing students also to the current state of scholarship in their fields.

Courses within the English Language Literatures and Cultures Specialisation cover all literary historical periods, focusing on the work of single authors, on a specific movement or on a broader phenomenon.

Our MA in English Studies programme prepares students for employment that requires, beyond linguistic competence in English, in-depth familiarity with British culture and society, and its global impact. This expertise is sought in the world of business, information technology, media, publishing, diplomacy, international relations, tourism, as well as in the arts and entertainment industries. Our programme also prepares those students who wish to pursue an academic career with the knowledge level required for university doctoral (PhD) programmes within Hungary or abroad.
